MOROCCO
HIGHLIGHTS
Situated on the northwest African continent, Morocco is a land of Muslim tradition. The country seems poised between myth and reality: the legendary city of Tangier, Casablanca and Marrakech evoke scents of spices and mysterious atmosphere. Many of the most famous of Morocco were understandably turned into a myth, but travelers consumers may complain that the 'real' Morocco seems to no longer exist, while others continue to decant the light sparkle, art and history. The truth, as often happens stay in the midde.

Morocco is the ideal starting point to visit Africa. Easily accessible from Europe and is a welcoming and stimulating. The open-air markets have scattered everywhere piled of carpets, wooden crafts and jewelry. The main product of the country (after the hashish) is leather, which is said to be the softest in the world.

On the coast the weather is pleasant for most of the year, but in the northern, winter may bring cold and rain. The preferred months by the tourists, who go to the plains, are between October and April, which is the freshest, this time during the day, the temperature is pleasantly warm or hot (around 30 ° C) and cool at night (around 15 ° C). EVENTS
Morocco is one of those religious frontiers where orthodoxy and local custom made a compromise. The veneration of saints is frowned upon by orthodox Sunnis, but, nevertheless, Morocco has several festivals in honor of saints. It may be useful to get informations over there about these occurrences, because many dates are not fixed or the same of the Western calendar.

In late May or early June is held Moussem m'a Sidi Mohammed Al-Ainin, which offers the opportunity to see the 'blue men' (the nomadic Tuareg of the Sahara) and gatherings of the tribes. At the same time there is the National Folklore Festival of Marrakech: an event that lasts ten days to see dancers, musicians and other artists from around the country. In late October, Erfoud, a small town in the north, hosts a festival (Fête des DATTES) in honor of the date palm, the quintessential desert fruit. The Independence Day is one of five national secular holidays and is celebrated on November 18.

THE TRIP
Morocco has good links with Europe, Africa and the Middle East and has three international airports (Casablanca, Tangier and Agadir). If you want to reach the country by car will have no difficulty: there are many hydrofoils and ferries for the transport of vehicles in service between Algeciras and Tangier and Ceuta in Spain. There is also a good bus service linking the country with Europe, Compagnie de Transports Marocains (CTM; in Casablanca.

LOCAL TRANSPORT
If you have limited time and have no financial problems, you may consider the idea of one or more domestic flights to visit the country in depth. The airline Royal Air Maroc (RAM in Casablanca 022 912 000; www.royalairmaroc.com) offers special rates for students and under-26. Office National des Chemins de Fer (ONCF) Moroccan operates one of the most modern rail networks in Africa connecting most of the main centers. Trains are generally comfortable, fast and better than bus, but night trains are the sleeper. If you miss the train, buses are still an acceptable alternative and in almost all areas of services are numerous and efficient. Renting a  car does not come cheap, but turning to smaller companies you can find some convenient opportunity. Gasoline is available almost everywhere. Please note that Moroccan roads and police officers perform many checks and in most cities there are parking, to keep your car and expect to give a generous tip.

Biggest cities have public bus service. Many cities  have the petit taxis which can carry up to three passengers and may help prevent heat stroke and / or guides and insistent vendors.
