HIGHLIGHTS
Belgium is a country quiet and discreet, at first sight a little resigned, but looking a little deeper it turns out to a complex State with strong personality, formed by Flemish of German origin and Walloons Latin-Celtic array, divided by pride and language. The elements that keep the country united are a great sense of family and an indomitable spirit of enterprise. If Belgium has not a very European scenario is just because its population does not love it. The country boasts a wealth of history, art, cuisine and architecture than many other nations biggest and famous.
BELGIUM INFO TRAVEL
WEATHER
Normally there are extreme weather, the hottest months are between April and September, but we must be prepared to gray skies and wet roads at any time of year. Sometimes it seems that umbrellas and raincoats are part of the traditional costume of Belgium.

EVENTS
Except the traditional religious holidays, the months in Brussels with more festivals are July and August. The first Thursday of July parade is held on the Ommegang, a huge parade of nobles dressed in antiques costumes. The lively national festival, held on 21 July, coincides with the beginning of the Brussels Fair, which lasts 1 month.

THE TRIP
Belgium has two international airports: the main one is Zaventem, 14 km north-east of Brussels, the other, Deurne, near Antwerp and has less frequent flights only to Amsterdam, London, Liverpool and Dublin. Depending on the time, flights to London can be cheaper from Deurne. If you are already in europe, buses or trains are the best option. Eurolines provides international races to / from Belgium. The Belgian railways have frequent international services; Brussels has 3 main train stations and is the focus of the Belgian railway system. For those traveling by car, Belgium has a good network of motorways: the E19 from Holland, the E40 from Germany, the E411 from Lussemburgo and E17 and E19 from France. Some companies operate ferries to / from 'England
LOCAL TRANSPORT
Moving to Belgium is simple and inexpensive, and this partially offsets the high costs of accommodation. There are many buses and rent a car is simple enough, but the most effective cost is by train. The Belgian rail network is managed by the company Belgische Spoorwegen/Société National des Chemins de Fer Belges (Belgian Railways; 02 528 28 28; www.b-rail.be) and InterCity services are faster, followed by trains and inter - local ones. In remote areas, such as the Ardennes, the connections are handled by buses. If you plan to travel extensively in these areas with local buses operated by TEC Transport en commun (TEC; 081 32 17 11; www.infotec.be) may be helpful to buy an 'Inter Cartes', found on board the bus or offices TEC. You decide how much money you want to load the card (there is a minimum of € 6), but nevertheless will prove to be cheaper than buying each time the single ticket (€ 1.30) or a carnet of 10 (€ 6.50).

Even the urban transport system is valid, with a small tram and metro network in Brussels and Antwerp. Taxis, which are located outside the main railway stations, have the meter but are expensive. Bicycles are common in the northern plains and many streets have bicycle paths. At train stations you can rent bikes and you can also rent boats for cruises along the rivers and canals.
